Malaysia has set its sights on securing a total of 33 medals at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, which will be held from September 19 to October 4. The ambitious target includes six gold, seven silver, and 20 bronze medals. According to Mohd Sumali Reduan, Malaysia’s Chef de Mission, this goal is achievable given the athletes’ current form and recent performances, along with the assessment of medal possibilities and the competitive landscape across Asia.

The Malaysian delegation, comprising 352 athletes and 185 officials, will compete in 30 out of the 43 sports featured at the Games. They are set to participate in 156 events out of a total of 469. The team has identified 13 sports disciplines with strong potential for winning medals, among them track cycling, badminton, archery, diving, squash, and sepak takraw. Other sports where Malaysia hopes to excel include hockey, athletics, sailing, karate, wushu, esports, and shooting.

Wushu athlete Tan Cheong Min has been chosen as the flag-bearer for Malaysia at the Asian Games, marking a significant honor in representing the nation’s spirit. Additionally, track cycling standout Azizulhasni Awang is anticipated to play a key role in bolstering Malaysia’s medal haul. His participation is highly anticipated given his past successes and contributions to the sport.

In parallel, Malaysia’s contingent for the Asian Para Games, scheduled from October 18 to 24, has set its own medal goals. They aim to bring home six gold, 10 silver, and 18 bronze medals. This reflects a concerted effort to showcase the talents and determination of Malaysian athletes on an international stage, further highlighting the country’s commitment to sporting excellence across diverse fields.
