Indonesia has commenced the construction of the Masela LNG Project, a significant national strategic energy venture with a valuation of $20.95 billion (Rp 390 trillion). This ambitious project is anticipated to contribute over $44 billion to state revenue throughout its operational lifespan, primarily through direct and indirect tax revenues. Once the project becomes operational, it is set to bolster Indonesia’s energy production by generating 9.5 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) each year and producing 35,000 barrels of condensate daily.
Employment prospects are a crucial aspect of the Masela LNG Project. During the construction phase, the development is expected to create approximately 12,000 jobs. Once operations begin, it will sustain between 800 to 1,000 permanent positions. The Indonesian government has underscored its commitment to prioritizing qualified local residents for these opportunities, particularly from the Tanimbar Islands and the broader Maluku region.
Strategically located in the Arafura Sea, about 150 kilometers south of Masela Island, the project is poised to have a substantial impact on regional economic growth.
